on a Churchill.

I Picked up this Black Ash Burl when I visited Berea Hardwoods back in November. I was waiting to put this blank on a special kit.
This is the first Churchill for me.

The finish is CA (no BLO) and is one of the best I have had to date. The finish is good enough to make me wish my photo setup was better because the gloss really does not show well in the pictures.

That's a nice kit choice for that piece of wood, Kirk. In fact, that's a beautiful specimen and I think you've done it justice. I also think the gloss of your finish comes across quite well in your photograph. Good job all around, I'd say.

Dale,
One coat of thin CA sanded in with 400 grit to fill the small eyes that had voids.
Sanded that off till back to wood with 320 and 400.
3 coats of thin and 3 coats of medium.
Sanded with 400 (had some pretty bad swirls on it) then 800, 1000, and 2000 wet or dry silicone oxide paper sanding wet with very little water, but enough to keep it wet.
Then on to the buffer with tripoli and white diamond.
Done:)
