I took a blank with part white sapwood and part yellow heartwood and turned it into a cigar pen. The difference between the sapwood and heartwood is subtle... hard to capture in evening PIX without flash. But I like it and it was fun to turn. The wood is nice for turning albeit a little coarse in the grain.
I turned this one entirely with the Lacer skew after roughing it down to cylinder. Sanded to 600 grit. Finished with some old Honey Oak Sealacell with Tung Oil that I had lying around. It popped the grain a little without really changing the Movingui color. I let that dry and then topcoated it with a coat of Behlen's Violin Varnish. It has a nice woody feel and natural look... not too glossy or plastic-like.
