These are before and after pics of a pen that I turned from Aus. Blackwood and a Celluloid CB. After asembling it I didn't like the way it looked so I took it apart and re-did it .

I definitely prefer the "after" look. The placement of the grooves looks a bit "off"...I think it's because the top groove sits just forward of the point where the clip touches the wood. Spreading the grooves out a bit more might have worked better. Note that this is just my impression...so you may want to add a pound or so of salt! ;o)

It amazes me what some people like, I sold a pen to a chap he seen in my FOR DISASSEMBLY box.
Nothing would change his mind, "it was maybe a present for his mother in law".

Here's some pics of my copy stand . I had the brackets from another time and I added the metal "U" bracket at the back to take a seamless background . Because the brackets were originally designed to be used while copying a flat surface and the light is flat , I use the "Fill flash" mode in the camera to fill in the shadows . The bulbs are just 75 watt reflector bulbs .

Doug,
I actually think the first shot may be better; the color has more depth to me. But, regardless, thanks for sharing your copy stand!
