Here's a fountain pen I made my friend for her Birthday. She wanted something nice and slim to keep in her purse. Since I had artistic freedom I wanted to try something new.

Dimensions:

Capped: 5 3/8" ~ 137mm
Cap: 2 1/8" ~ 54mm
Body: 3 1/2" ~ 89mm
Body + Nib: 5" ~ 127mm
Posted: 5 3/4" ~ 146mm

Threads:
Cap/Body: 12x.08 Triple Start
Body/Section: 10x1

Nib & Ink:
#6 Schmidt Polished Steel in Medium
Cartridge/Converter

Here are the before pictures:

I'm confused? She didn't like the black blank without the clip? I do admit that I like the blue much better :)

I'm confused too....the OP says he wanted to try something new....but I don't see anything that looks "new" and there is no explaination of what the "after" pen is and how it is different.

How is this confusing  IT'S THE SAME PEN! Hence the BEFORE and AFTER labels in the pictures. I figured the fact that it's COMPLETELY visually different would take place of me having to spell it out.

WOW.....I was fully expecting to see it go from the matte finish black to a shiny black. The blue caught me by surprise and looks amazing.
Okay, now we want to know...how does it go from very dark black to very light and shiny blue.
Well done...

Wow, I thought that was prototype/completed photos except for the before/after labels! Blue spray paint? Hydro-dip? Urushi?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. To do this I basically did a custom car paint job on the pen body. Urethane clear coat and all. I used a technique popular back in the 60's by pooling the paint in areas and then quickly spraying air to create the pattern you see.

Nice transformation! Are you trying out urushi?

Not on this project.....

but that's next on my list :biggrin::biggrin:

I love it...and I'm sure your friend will too. What an interesting technique!

I wasn't expecting that at all either...very creative!

Thanks for sharing...beautiful work as usual!

Really awesome pen, love the finish! I can't imagine that cap was easy to do, retrofitting a clip and all. Great work but I expect nothing less.
