Here is a silver Chruchill wearing Box Elder Burl that I finished tonight. This light wood was a booger to get a good pic of. If anyone has any tips for taking pics of light colored wood I would appreciate them.
Beautiful wood and nice shape on the pen. Like everyone else, I think the picture looks great, but you acknowledged that it ended up being a good picture, we just don't know how much you had to struggle to get it that way.
Great looking pen and photograph. However, I know the feeling on light colored wood. I have some Tasmanian Huon pine that I have made into pens - 4 so far, 3 to the fellow that gave me the wood. My Sierra has over 90 annular rings visible to the eye (barely), but they do not show up in pictures very well.
As for the photography question, a good starting point is a contrasting background, very diffused light, and a slightly underexposed image. Aside from the tiny bit of burn on the top and shadow on the bottom tip that's a really good pic!
