This is by and large one of the most beautiful blanks that I have ever turned! The blank is called "Bronze Fire" and of course it came from Dawn at www.exoticblanks.com. This was to be my second ever closed end/cap pen. Much to my dismay, upon pressing in the thread assembly for the nib I shattered the closed end. Thankfully I was able to save it and still use the post section. I can't say enough about this blank. It was great to work with and it is absolutely stunning to look at!!!

Rhodium Jr. Gent II RB with minor Alum. and Brass segmenting.

Thanks for looking. Any and all comments are welcome.

Nice lookin pen, Steve.

The design looks like the closed end would have been "Special".

But great recovery.

Steve,

You're the second one that I have heard "crushed" a closed end.

Here's an idea: I have an "indent" in my baseplate that is 3/8" (about). It is about 3/8" deep too. The "hardware" sits on the edge of this indent and the pressure goes on the hardware. NOW, with a closed end, make a 1/4" dowel that is JUST the right length to support the inside of the blank, while you push the pen together.

I think it will work!!!

Looks great Steve....of course you just HAD to segment it...

LOL ..And how else would we know it was an Akbar original???:biggrin:

Great save Steve! I really like the shape and the way you made the colors of the inlays mimic the hardware. And now I can say with authority... that this a real beauty!!:biggrin::biggrin::tongue:
