This quintet of Interference Pens started with white barrels, steps:
Airbrushed or hand-brushed iridescent or standard acrylic backgrounds.
Masked with 1/8" and/or 1/16" tape strips.
Airbrushed and/or hand-brushed Golden brand interference paints mixed with acrylic airbrush medium or other plain or iridescent gloss acrylics.
Turned and finished as usual.

Difficult to photograph/reveal the interference properties - but lots of fun:

Thanks, Tim.

I should mention that the interference paints color-shift most dramatically when applied to dark or mid-tone colored backgrounds; which is why I like to gradate the background color tone and saturation with an airbrush to add interest.

The liquid acrylic interference colors used above were (fine as opposed to coarse grain): blue, red, orange, green, violet, and orange-green.

The colors mix well with Golden airbrush medium for standard or fine tip airbrush use.

The Pearl EX mica powders also play nicely with these paints - mixed in or top-sprinkled.

Warm regards, Bob

Thanks, Gregory - I cast them tube-in (Fred Wissen's tube-in slimline molds), and used Douglas and Sturgess Clear Casting Resin, 50 psi.
I turned all of them with my new Magic Bob Magical Skew (fun tool).

Here are the newborns:

Sincere thanks, Derek!

Another technical/procedural casting point of general value: repositionable pressure casting shelves:

This was quick work/simply-constructed - parallel routed slots in 1/2" pine; glued-up with a dowel handle for (level) placement of Lowes 3x6" glazed ceramic tiles - versatile, and works well for small object casting such as (8) tube-in pen molds, jewelry molds, etc.

Best regards to all - Bob
