This is a small banksia pod filled with brass filings from a key cutting machine.
If you decide to try using brass filings to inlay in pens, be SURE to wear nitrile gloves. My hands feel like I filled it with cactus spines! Those fine filings will pierce your skin.

Not a very good picture...I'm still learning how to use my new smartphone and haven't figured out how to turn off the flash!

Very nice ... what a cool idea !!! . What glue did you use to hold in the brass filings ?

Looks great, :biggrin: The shape is a bit chubby for me, but the effect in the blank is great.

I think I remember key cutting brass being used before, but I'm sure theirs wasn't a success like yours. Well done.:)

Yeah, it is a bit chubby for me, too, but it is what the customer wanted. I made a fat one like that for my husband...who has huge hands...and a friend saw it and wanted one made like it. It isn't really quite as chubby as it looks....the flash put a dark shadow behind it that makes it look even chubbier!
