Atrax - Rollerball - Maple

Just finished this one this afternoon. Atrax Rollerball kit with Maple Wood.

Maple is such a "plain" wood, I wish I would have done something to accent the wood better. I have some plans for next time, but for now the pen is still very nice.

I'd have said that maple would make a plain pen... except that I really like this one! The colour is very pleasing and it has some subtle grain that looks good.

Personally, I rather like Maple with it's subtle grain patterns.

Maple can be plain then again hit the firewood pile and look for some crotch pieces. Usually some nice grain patterns there. Those pieces look like they have some nice grain. A little late now but a little aniline dye dissolved in alcohol would really pop what grain there is.

Not everyone shopping for a pen is wanting exotic, blingy type of wood....there are those people out there that want simple, creamy gloss wood finishes....and you have it right here for them!

I agree with Scott, Simple is good sometimes. I would cut the buldge down a little though. Just IMO

I like maple, but I agree it can be can be a little plain. Try a few blanks of curly maple.

I bulge most of my pens, but I agree, this one is rather large. I am actually going to start some straight barrel pens and see how I like doing those.

I would agree on a lesser bulge for this kit,which has square ends,i love the maple and finish.
