So a colleague asked if I could make a pen from ash. "No probs, but I don't think I have any."
"Leave it with me." Says he and he wanders in a few weeks later with a Hurley (the implement of choice in a game of hurling).



Righto. To work I go. Fist problem is that he wants a fountain pen and I like to turn the lids of mine to about 14mm. At it's thickest, the bat (or is it a "racket" or perhaps a "club"?) is about 14.5mm. So I cut a sliver from the middle of the handle and centred it.



The final roughing was still showing some of the blood, sweat and tears from the bat's final match, where the tool barely touched it, so I sanded it round.



Here it is partially assembled. Just about to do the final cap alignment to grain match it.



Client requested no finish, so I just beeswaxed it.
