ART DECCO SPALTED WOOD

Tried something new today with this art decco pen.
The pen barrel is spalted hackberry, with some tinges of red in it.
The barrel cap is spalted red oak. Thought the two woods complimented
each other.
Would like your all's opinion on this.

I think your work is great, I just do not think that I like the mix of the two woods, just my opinion of course.

Nice work but to me the wood mix makes it look like you made a mistake. Just my opinion, of course you did ask for it.

There is nothing better to me than shear honesty and that is what I like about this forum. The reason I mixed the two was that the hackberry had splashes of red in it.

Fit-n-finsih are great, bet those piece sucked up some thin CA during the turning!?!?!

While I love working and using both types of wood...got to agree with the above.

How about using the same material for both top and bottom but picking up the minor color (brown) with deep brown accents at the end of each piece?

Looks good to me. But loose the red background in the pics.

Good looking pen, but i like the hackberry better myself. The piece of oak doesn't have the "kapow" factor of all the spalting lines in it.
