I don't!! I once found out what is was when I saw a bowl in someones gallery on the internet. Didn't write it down, and can't find it again. These colors held from the day I sawed the log 2 years ago till now. Brown heartwood and yellow sapwood. No smell, very light weight, course grain, slight fleck on the quartersawn side. The log was about 18" dia if I remember right and about 8' long. It was at the recycling yard so I didn't see any leaves.

Pretty wood, but have no clue as to it's origin. The wood looks a little like a flowering plum that I cut up after Hurricane Ivan a few months ago but has a more distintive grain than the plum. Let's see, 8' long, 18" dia. cut up into 3/4" square by 5" long, that's a lot of pens!!

The tree was growing in Peoria, IL. It might have been an ornamental, but doubt if it is that exotic. The sapwood is all that is yellow, and it is about 1" to 1 1/2" thick. We do have a botanical garden here, but doubt if it came from there.
