I was given a truck load of Burls, this one was from the only dry one. It was very soft, but my son managed to turn several of these.

Kinda reminds me of black walnut, kinda reminds me of Katalox. No idea...

It'll be a lot easier to identify if you can get a pic of the block.

Well I took it back to the place that I got the wood from, and they inform me it is Sycamore (Spalted Burl)

Hmmm, well the color doesn't look like the typical sycamore color, but the very fine grain pattern certainly looks sycamorish.

Since you say the black lines are spalting, that answers that question!

Very nice pen--- has a unique look to it! I like it.
