Made this one out of curly maple, and didn't get any definition to it so I decided it needed some color. On a whim I decided to give it a good coating of Crayola, then sanded it down and completed the finish with the normal CA/BLO

Not sure what to think about it, but it's an improvement over the uncolored version.

Rick; Crayolas are based on a colored wax, and therefore should be good coating for wood. With the Chrome fittings we could call it red, white, and blue. That's realy thinking out of the box. The color box that is. And I watch Gator Boys all the time. Nice work !! Jim S

I guess it's hard to tell with the picture, but the colors are actually Orange and Blue....I grabbed the wrong crayon...I was going for a Red White & Blue

You can use food coloring to get that effect also I use alcohol to set it into the wood and dry it right on the lathe.. Nice job really shows off that curl.
