What started off as a simple antler wrapped around a antique pewter bolt action went south when I was drilling. The antler was provided by my brother-in-law and was rather small. Plus, it was tightly curved. As luck would have it, I blew out the sidewall. Well, I had a large piece of oak timber that he had also given me which came from their family's log house which was built sometime pre-Civil War, so I took a small piece and used it as an inlay. After turning, it actually worked.

Thanks. I had to set it down for a week, both to get over the frustration and to think of what to do with it. Finally decided to try carving a little piece of his oak and it happened to work.

Whew!
