Someone gave me this blank a while back, and I finally got around to turning it. I don't know what it is, but it's definitely not Silmar41, or Alumilite. The shavings were much more coarse (?) or hard, compared to the soft, pliable feel from the others shavings.

I wasn't sure what to think of this blank because at first I thought it looked Christmassy. However, for some reason, after turning it gave me a feeling of some of the older plastics used on knives, pens, etc (don't know why). I thought black ti fittings would look better, but decide to go with gold to stay with the nostalgic theme.

Any comments and critiques welcome.

Thanks for looking.

I bought some blanks like that from Rockler last year, just for the purpose of making some Christmas themed pens. It looks good on the larger pens I used it on.

As far as what it is, it wasn't as brittle as Inlace Acrylester, but it didn't quite feel like Acrylic Acetate either, although I'd say was closer to the later.
