Just finished this one this morning. This is a follow up from the Walnut one I finished yesterday.
I would like the next one to be a little shorter and the clip to be a little higher.

For the life of me I can't remember if this is Red Melee burl or Amboyna Burl.

What do you think??

Lots of pics - because it is so purdy!

I think Amboyna...I've had AMboyna marked with AM before. And, the sapwood portion looks a lot like some ambohyna sapwood I have. Either way, I agree that the pen is very nice...even PURDY!
Do a good turn daily!

Great looking pen. The grain looks like amboyna, but the odor while turning it is the way to tell for sure. Amboyna has a VERY distinct odor.

I've not turned either, but it looks like the Amboyna blanks that I've seen recently. Another outstanding pen. Great job.

Not sure if it's crossing a boundary or anything, but do you mind if I ask where you found the boxes you use? They're very nice. If you'd rather not say...no worries.

I'm going with the crowd and saying Amboyna. As I think about it I don't remember ever buying any Red Mallee burl. I think I got the Amboyna from MrBurls on here.
Thanks for the comments.

Sure looks like Amboyna Burl. The "smell" test should be the final "proof". When turned, Amboyna smells very plesant and makes me crave a cup of coffee. Mallee, on the other hand, stinks to high heavens.
