I love micarta. I have it on my pocket knife scales. I spent some time trying to find some thick enough to make a pen and didn't find any. I know it exists but to find small amounts at retail has been hard.

if you have decent plastics supplier nearby they may have, that was good quality industrial phenolic rod, can't remember the cost but was not much, no color selection but i like the amber gives a retro look

do take care pressing, it's weakness as once drilled can split if the fit is too tight, tapping difficult too, would recommend a course hand tap like for wood turned boxes

i made a slightly snug friction fit taper and CA glue to join the aluminum

otherwise machines well, just watch speed and heat
