I got given this 50mm Machine gun cartridge as a challenge, so I used a Gold Baron Fountain kit and a piece of English Elm Burl to make this desk pen.

Very much a prototype!

I would be really interested in the comments as it's a bit different.

That's pretty cool! I think it would be a bit heavy to write with. On the next one try making the shell casing as the cap barrel and the wood as the writing end. Then it could be a desk pen.

I still think it's too big to really be a good pen. I don't think I've seen a 50 cal pen made yet that looked like it would really work.

Very cool looking pen, but I just don't know if it'll really work as anything other than a desk ornament.

Maybe you could make the shell the pen stand?
