50 cal kitless

I was over talking with a fella and noticed a spent 50 cal round sitting on his desk. He's got arthritis and has difficulty using the typical skinny pens, so I asked him if I could have the round to make him a pen he could use a little easier. here 'tis.

Looks like a Cross refill ... right ? And is the wood section a press fit into the casing ?
