I have come up with a way to cut the Herringbone pattern on the laser.
I have designed and made a device to assist me in doing that.( Lots of trial and error)
Well this is the result. 20 individual pieces on the Sierra barrel.

The finish is CA glue and with eight different colors in stabilized Maple wood.

Thank you all for the kind words. I love using color stabilized wood it just makes it stand out more. I am now putting a collection of burls together to make some with natural woods. The way this layout work is that you can use combinations of 2, 4, 8 or 10 colors or different species of wood.

After doing a few of the herringbone pens I wish I had me some laser technology. No glue joints would be great. I see in your picture of the 4 pens, the numbered pieces used. So it looks like an inlay type of assembly.

The glue joints/gaps was the reason why I had to come up with a device to to make these with.
The time to assemble is also a big factor, at least for me.
