This is the pen I made for clinch, my partner in the 2010 Australia Day Pen Swap.

It is a modified Executive Roller Ball, ends are primer ends from a .308 rifle cartridge with brass finials turned on the metal lathe.

The blank is the bark from a Red Ironbark tree, finish is 20 coats of CA.

TWENTY coats ???:eek::eek:

Yep, twenty coats. Don't forget this stuff is bark and therefore quite porous.
The first 4 coats or so basically just stabilise the material. My normal CA routine is 6 coats of thin CA, sand dry 320-800, then another 6 coats of thin CA, sand dry 320-1200, then micromesh wet 1500 - 12000, then fibreglass polish and final buff on the loose mop.

Very Nice! Thanks for sharing your finishing regiment!
How did the young aussie girl make out? Did she get her pens and goodies?

Hi Lenny, I know she has received at least 2 parcels, but haven't yet found out who from. I am awaiting arrival of a parcel from DocStram and on arrival will post it on to her.

I sent out a pen using one of JohnU's feather blanks a few weeks ago. ( I LOVE those
blanks!) but I didn't see if any of the pens were getting through yet. Glad they're
starting to arrive!
