Hi all,

I don't normally care for novelty pens, but I had a source of War Between the States rifle stocks. I couldn't resist making up a Civil War pen using wood from a 1861 Springfield. The stocks were unuseable and beyond restoration. As large as these stocks are, there is not a lot of wood suitable for pen blanks considering a hole thru the fore-end for the ram rod, the inletting for lock ect. Anyway I thought it made a interesting historical project.

I like it! I don't care for the Civil War pens either but I've made a couple just for the novelty part. Good choice, though, matching up the hardware and wood from the era. :)

Im a hunting fanatic and love old firearms......hate bullet and gun pens! This one is an exception! It has a real link to the past and the kit does not cross the line to tacky ville! NOT my favorite kit but when combined with the historical wood you used I call this one a home run!
