Dear Freedom Pen Project,

As a Soldier at FT Gordon WTB I recieved one of your pens from CPT Lopez the
WTB Chaplain. My pen was turned by Keith Long - IAP and is a beautiful gift
that I will carry with me for years to come.
Once again thank you for your gift and kindness.

I am writing to thank you for your support of military members such as
myself. I was recently given one of your pens from the Freedom Pen Project.
To be honest, it sat on the dresser for a few weeks with other odds and
ends. When I finally got around to cleaning, I opened the package to see
what I had really received. Once I got it out, I saw that I had a fine pen
that made even me look half-way professional. I don't know how many people
are involved in your organization or if you know each other well. My thanks
to Keith Long. The slip of paper says he turned my pen. My thanks to you
all.

Woodchippers:

Saturday was the final formation for Charlie Company, 115th Signal Company
prior to deployment to Afghanistan. The formation was held at Grissum High
School.

Each member of the unit was presented a Freedom Pen. Our participation was,
for all practical purposes a last minute opportunity, so members of Charlie
Company were not expecting us. Thanks to Dave Carney of AUSA for working us
in.

The Woodchipper reps handing out the pens were Bob Hovde, Robin Bruno, Al
Reed, Daniel Green, Ila Allen and yours truly.

The youngest member of our group, 17 year old Daniel Green, presented the
First Sergeant with a pen that he turned from spalted maple.

Robin Bruno presented the Company Commander with a special Dymondwood pen
turned by Mike Hoefer.

And, since he is definitely operating under a handicap, the lowest ranking
enlisted man in the unit, Pvt Palmer, was presented the "special" pen shown
in the attached photo.

The obvious pleasure and gratitude of these young troops makes our efforts
worthwhile.

Again, thanks for your continued participation in the program.

V/R,
Boyce

Thanks Steve for posting these. It is an honor to be able to be a part of this project, and even a greater honor to be thanked by someone who recieves these pens. This is justa small part that we can do for our servicemen and women who put their lives in harms way for this great country. Again I am glad to be a part of the freedom pen project and I encourage everyone to be a part of this also.
