The first two look OK but you need more uniform light. The bottom half of the photo is properly lit but the top section is too dark.

Default Discovery

As long as the pen in in contact with the paper, no shadow but when elevated from the paper i see a shadow. Are shadows detrimental to a pen photo?

it looks like you're using an on-camera flash. You need light from the sides not the front.

I have a large photo booth which did not work for pens so i took some on of white background which as you mentioned are void of proper light from the sides. Actuall i have a G11 cannon so I'll purchase an inexpensive photo booth ebay style and go from there. Terry thanks for your input.

Lonn,

Not long ago Brooks803 provided a description of the photo process he uses and he produces some great pictures. I also recall seeing a tutorial on making your own photo booth. Check the library and do some searches. Also check out the pen photo section. Might save some time and money.

The pens are too dark on the background. you need to increase your exposure. If you can set you camera at +1 or probably +2, it will make a huge difference. Everything needs to brighten up.
