Acceptable Use Policy

Acceptable Use Policy

In accordance with the Terms of Service section titled "Use and Storage", the following policies are established to govern acceptable use of the discussion forums. These policies apply to all member-provided content at penturners.org including message postings, signature blocks, member profile content, social group postings, photo titles and descriptions, and private messages.

Forum-Specific Rules may be posted in some forums. These will appear as sticky posts at the top of the forum topics window. New users especially should read that information before posting.

Advertisements to buy, sell, or swap belong in the Individual Classifieds Forum or the Business Classifieds Forum. Ads found elsewhere may be deleted or moved. Shill posts, spam, or sneaky marketing practices will get you ejected.

Respect the privacy of others. Do not post individual's phone numbers addresses, photographs, etc. without their permission. Become familiar with our Privacy Policy

Use descriptive topic subjects. This helps others use the search function to find what they're looking for.

Search, then ask. Consider using the search function before you ask a basic question. Don't hesitate to ask questions, but the basic things have likely been covered many times previously.

No trolling. Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to annoy people.

No personal attacks. Criticize ideas, not people. Flaming will not be tolerated. Broad, negative statements about individuals or businesses are not permitted.

Submit only appropriate content. Material that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, or which infringes upon the intellectual property, contractual, or fiduciary rights of others is not permitted.

Use English only. Although we are an international organization and welcome members from around the world, proper moderation of forum content demands that we use a single, consistent language. Material in any language other than English will be deleted.

No pornographic, sexually offensive, sexually explicit, or objectifying material. This includes suggestive images, graphics, comments, and links to same.

Do not use vulgar language.

Discussions of politics and religion are not allowed.

Signature Guidelines:

Signatures shall contain no more than 5 lines of text, including blank lines. The maximum text size allowed in signatures is BBCode text size 4.

Signatures may contain one static or animated image no larger than 500 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall.

Links in signatures are permitted provided they point only to the following:
  • Your non-commercial site
  • Your commercial site selling items related to pen making
  • An eBay store operated by you selling pen-related items
  • Your section of a shared pen store or pen-artists site
  • Your album on a photo-sharing site such as Flickr or Photobucket
  • Your profile on a social networking site such as Facebook
Obscured links such as TinyURL pointers, spelled-out URLs, etc., are not permitted. You may use BBCode URL tags to wrap your link in a descriptive title, but be clear about it.

No more than 3 links are permitted in your signature.

We do not encourage the use of religious content in signatures. However, we recognize that a person's religious convictions or lack thereof are important aspects of their personality. Sharing such information can dissolve some of the anonymity of the Internet and help to build relationships and a sense of community. Therefore, brief statements which contain religious ideas are permitted in signatures. Do not use your signature as a "bully pulpit", or as a means to belittle or offend other members. Don't demean other points of view.

Political statements are not permitted in signatures.
