more to come! ive made up a dozen blanks of the maple with walnut banding and tried one reversed, ie walnut with maple banding. not so good, walnut sanding dust is embedded in the softer maple changing it from white to a light brown, suggestions are welcome. the "muddy" colour is most obvious where the maple grain is at 45 degrees, so almost endgrain.

ive also started another blank as a test, this time a six sided "knot". for this, I started with a carefully cut hexagonal blank, it will get 6 inserts instead of the four as before. we'll see what happens

yes, Brian, my shop is full of old iron. the bandsaw is a 1915 Crescent 20, the tablesaw is 1930's(approx.) delta 1160 tilt top, and my lathe is a 1940's Henry Power Tools(London Ont, Canada).

I have a complete woodworking shop(in old iron), but these three are most related to turning!!
